A New Year Experience Few Travelers Ever Get to Have
Why Japanese New Year Is So Special
New Year—Oshogatsu—is one of the most meaningful times of the year in Japan.
Unlike many celebrations travelers can experience in public, much of Japanese New Year happens at home. Families return home, gather around the table, share osechi and sake, play traditional games, and welcome the year together.
For international travelers, being invited into a real Japanese family home to experience these traditions from the inside is incredibly rare.
This time, there’s a seat at the table for you.
You won’t simply learn about Japanese New Year—you’ll live it with us.
Share the food. Join the traditions. Laugh together. Welcome 2027 together.
More than a tour, we hope it becomes one of those New Year memories you’ll carry with you for years to come.
What Our 2024 & 2025 New Year Travelers Say

Back to Where New Adventure Began
The very first journey we created at New Adventure began with one simple idea:
“Come home for New Year.”
For New Year 2024, we invited travelers into a Japanese family home for the very first time.
Together, we experienced the everyday traditions of Japanese New Year—the kind of moments most travelers rarely get to see.
For New Year 2026, we took a year off.
But travelers kept asking us:
“Are you doing the New Year tour again this year?”
So, for New Year 2027—
the New Adventure New Year journey is back.
This New Year’s Eve, we’re not heading to a crowded tourist attraction.
Instead, we’re going home—to the New Adventure founder’s family home.
This isn’t a cultural experience created for tourists.
It’s our family’s New Year—and we’re inviting you to share it with us.
Sit around the same table. Share the food. Join the traditions. Laugh together.
These are the small, everyday moments that make Japanese New Year so special—and the moments that are often the hardest for travelers to experience.
From the final day of 2026,
let’s step into the first day of 2027 together.
This time, there’s a seat at the table for you.

HIGHLIGHT 01
Celebrate New Year the Japanese Way.

A family home filled with generations of memories.
This isn’t a traditional house you visit as a tourist attraction.
It’s the real family home of New Adventure founder Hiroki—passed down from his grandfather’s generation and still lived in by his family today.
From the traditional Japanese architecture and engawa veranda to the tiled roof, the house reflects a way of life shaped by Japan’s changing seasons. Behind it lies a traditional Japanese garden—a sight rarely found in ordinary family homes today.
For more than 50 years, the garden has been carefully tended by a gardener close to Hiroki’s family, quietly changing with the seasons alongside the home.

Start the New Year with Hatsumode.
On the first morning of the New Year, we’ll visit the famous Kotohira-gu Shrine in Kagawa for Hatsumode—the traditional first shrine visit of the year.
Soak up the lively New Year atmosphere, put your hands together and make your first wish for the year.
Draw an omikuji fortune, choose an omamori charm, and take a little hope for 2027 home with you.

New Year’s Day|Take a Seat at a Japanese New Year Table.
Back at the New Adventure founder’s family home, the table is filled with osechi—traditional dishes prepared especially for the New Year.
Each dish carries its own meaning—a wish for happiness, health, and good fortune in the year ahead.
Pour some sake, raise a glass to the New Year, and enjoy traditional Japanese New Year games together.
No rushing from place to place today.
Just come in, take a seat, and spend New Year’s Day as if you were visiting friends in Japan.
Eat well. Talk. Laugh. And simply enjoy New Year together.

HIGHLIGHT 02
A Special Surprise|The Sound of Japan You Have to Feel in Person
We’ve prepared a little surprise for the start of the New Year.
It’s not a breathtaking view. And it’s not something you can taste.
It’s the powerful sound of Japanese taiko drums, performed right in front of you.
This time, the performance comes from a local taiko group from the New Adventure founder’s hometown.
This isn’t a performance created for tourists.
It’s a chance to meet local people in the place where our founder grew up—and hear them bring the sound of their hometown to life.
The moment the drumsticks strike, the air begins to vibrate.
The deep beat of the drums travels through your whole body.
It’s a sound, a rhythm, and a power you can only truly feel by being there.
Some parts of Japan aren’t meant to be seen.
They’re meant to be felt.
Let the beat of the taiko become one of your first memories of 2027.

HIGHLIGHT 03
A View Only the Lucky Get to See.
In Search of a Castle Floating Above the Clouds.
Before the sun rises, we set out.
We’ll make our way to a mountain viewpoint overlooking Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, where we’ll wait for the first light of morning.
When the temperature, humidity, and wind conditions align, a sea of clouds can fill the valley below.
And rising above it, Bitchu Matsuyama Castle may appear to float among the clouds—a true castle in the sky.
It’s a surprise that only nature can give us.
A view that no one can reserve, schedule, or guarantee.
And that’s exactly what makes it so special.
If the clouds appear and the castle reveals itself before us, the moment becomes one you’ll never forget.

Between the Mountains and the Sea, Discover a Torii in the Sky.
Step by step, we make our way up the mountain trail.
Waiting at the top is a spectacular “Torii in the Sky,” overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.
Stand before the torii, with the mountains beneath you and the Seto Inland Sea stretching all the way to the horizon.
Here, the sky, sea, and islands seem to become one.
Climb high above the Seto Inland Sea, take in the view, and make a wish for the year ahead.

The Giant Sand Coin “Kan’ei Tsuho”
See It Once, and You’ll Never Have to Worry About Money Again? 😊
Hidden along the coast of Kanonji, Kagawa, is an enormous “Kan’ei Tsuho”—a giant ancient coin drawn into the sand.
Even more intriguing, no one knows for sure how it came to be.
Local legend has it that those who see the giant sand coin will enjoy a long, healthy life—and never have to worry about money.
And since this is our first adventure of the New Year, why not start 2027 with a little extra luck?

HIGHLIGHT 04
Taste the Place. Taste the Local Way of Life.
Because Food Is Part of the Adventure, Too.
No trip to Kagawa is complete without a bowl of authentic Sanuki udon.
But we also want you to taste the food that locals truly love.
On New Year’s Eve, warm up with a bowl of toshikoshi soba, the traditional noodles eaten to welcome the New Year.
Then, on New Year’s Day, the table becomes a little more special.
A beautifully prepared osechi meal can easily cost ¥10,000 or more per person.
Because New Year comes only once a year, families save something special for the people they love.
This journey isn’t just about chasing famous restaurants.
We want you to eat the way locals do—and discover the flavors of Setouchi through the people who call this place home.

HIGHLIGHT 05
The Rest Is for Those Who Celebrate With Us.
Of course, there’s much more to Japanese New Year than what we’ve shown you here.
There are traditions that only come around at this time of year, little things Japanese families do at New Year—and a few surprises we’re keeping to ourselves for now.
This time, we’re not putting everything on the itinerary.
We’ll save the rest of the Japanese New Year experience for the travelers who come home with New Adventure this year.
Let’s keep a few things just between us. 🤫
